Hi Guys
Suggest Daisybank ride so there is a chance I might make it on time for once ;0)
Meet in usual spot just up from carpark.
Cheers

p.s. all the best to Tim H for his imminent operation. Hopefully he will be joining us again in the summer

Won’t be able to make this as my bike’s in bits. Can’t get the forks out!!!
Help please Ollie! Have undone the bolts and handbar/stem are now parted from steerer, brake removed but steerer column won’t budge even after bashing with a mallet (quite hard)…
Good luck Tim! Hope to see you on the trails soon…..
Can’t make this one I’m afraid
Erm, there’s usually a cone-wedge in the top of the headset. Try and ease it out. Tapping the steerer with the mallet usually does the trick though. See pictures 7 and 9 on http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/workshop-how-to-service-a-headset-22225
If you don’t mind v-brakes you are welcome to borrow my old Scott Alastair. Not too far for you to walk round to mine ;0)
Cheers

Thanks both of you. That article looks good – will have a go this weekend.
Mark – will almost certainly take you up on the bike offer as long as family stuff doesn’t get in the way.
Cheers, Alastair
Did you get the forks off Alastair?
Hi Chaps,
Am planning to come along.
Cheers,
Tony
Not yet. Tim from TF Tuned said I probably need to hit it a bit harder with a mallet but I haven’t plucked up the courage yet! He also said it’s probably not worth sending them in due to cost and a known fault with those forks which is too expensive to repair economically.
Any idea if I have post mount or IS mount brakes? Gonna get some new forks and not sure which i have.
Also, do you know where I can get new headset bearings? Bloke from Winstanley Bikes (cheapo forks) wanted to sell me a complete headset….
Oh, that’s a bugger about the forks. Still good excuse to get shiny new ones
Post mount brakes bolt directly into the fork leg, whereas I.S. bolt onto a tab that comes off the back of the fork leg. http://www.pricepoint.com/images/TECH_pages/TECH_Disk_tab_type.jpg shows the difference. As for bearings, they differ from one headset to the next. Best to take the bearings into a bike shop and ask.
Cheers Olly…
See you there chaps! Can’t wait!
